But as a human being in the winter we feel stuck in a revolving door of dark short days hoping that spring is around the corner. Well, just walk into Salt and Grove in Newburyport, MA and it’s like you stepped into the middle of a garden on a warm spring day. (LOVE.)

I first connected with Katie of Sweet Annie Floral through the Rising Tide Society on facebook. I had been planning my move from Boston to the north shore for months now and knew I had to start making connections with other vendors and challenging myself outside the city. Katie had told me of an (amazing) spring floral workshop she was hosting at her local artisan shop and shared creative space, Salt and Grove, (which she also shares with Sarah Jayne Photography) and it was the perfect opportunity to gain a friendor and take photos of gorgeous flowers.

These crafty ladies all came into the shop on a Saturday morning greeted by lil’s Cafe donuts and mimosas (um, best greeting ever right?). They quickly got to work, listening to Katie’s words of wisdom and arranging their individual pots. The set up was adorable with hand crafted name tags and a personal plant. This was a PERFECT event to step into Spring. I was amazed at all the beautiful creations these girls made- each one just a little bit different then the next.

If you want an awesome teacher, maybe a mimosa (or two), and a beautiful flower arrangement hand-made by you- check out Katie’s other two floral workshops in May and June! Oh and check out the Salt and Grove shop in the heart of downtown Newburyport, promise you won’t be disappointed!

As a photographer, the winter is the perfect time to get business things done: Make a new website, revamp the logo, connect with future clients, chat with other vendors, and just relax before busy season.
